L’isola delle meraviglie, dalla snaturata bellezza. La Capri degli artisti, degli eclettici e dei sognatori ma anche il posto tanto amato fin dai tempi remoti da gatti, meticci o di razza, e dalle gattare, donne comuni di umili discendenze o addirittura dalle tanto invidiate principesse. I gatti, felini dotati di grande fascino, dall’aspetto maestoso e fiero con le scaltre movenze eleganti si inerpica nei posti più impensabili, sempre pieno di orgoglio. Proprio il gatto è l’ispirazione della creativa Maria Alberino per la collezione “Graffi Capresi”.
Maria è figlia d’arte, giungendo alla terza generazione di gioiellieri, che vantano diversi atelier del gioiello a Capri, le sue creazioni si possono ammirare nella vetrina di “Mediterranee passioni” in piazza Umberto I.
“I gatti sono la mia passione, li amo. A casa ne ospito tanti, tutti randagi, e sono proprio loro i protagonisti della mia collezione. Adoro il loro carattere, la loro filosofia di vita che esprime lo spirito libero per cui è nata ‘Free as a cat’, che ha ispirato ‘Graffi capresi’, ho sentito la necessità di creare un gioiello che non fosse solamente un ornamento ma bensì un qualcosa che parlasse della persona che lo indossa”.
Un amore incondizionato nato due anni fa quando Maria ha lasciato la casa di famiglia per vivere da sola e, come lei stesso ci dice, raccattando gatti, ospitandoli nella sua dimora e condividendone gli spazi.
“Ho creato una linea di ciondoli, in tutto nove, ispirati ad ognuno dei miei gatti, quindi diverse pietre semi preziose montate in argento o in oro con diamanti”.
Lei personalmente indossa Milly, il gatto che per primo le ha ispirato la collezione, una pietra di diaspro tricolore.
Si racconta che le pietre sprigionano energie, questa in particolare è conosciuta come la pietra educatrice, nel Medioevo era considerata la pietra dei guerrieri. Lei stessa una guerriera che ha deciso di destinare parte del ricavato all’associazione caprese, “I Migliori Amici”, che da anni si prodiga per la cura e la salvaguardia dei gatti.
La creatività non ha limiti e oltre i ciondoli, Maria, sta mettendo in essere anche orecchini e anelli.
“Non solo, sto lavorando per creare un’altra linea di gioielli raffiguranti fiori.
Alla mia prima esperienza come designer mi rendo conto che non è affatto facile la realizzazione, e l’assemblamento del tutto, però ne vale la pena”.
A scratchy jewel born from purrs
The beautiful island of wonders. Capri, home of artists, eclectics and dreamers, but also a place that since ancient times has always been loved by cats, half and pure breed, by cat ladies, common women with humble origins, and even by much envied princesses. Cats, charming felines of majestic and fiery appearance, with elegant and quick movements scramble across the most unthinkable places, always filled with pride. Cats themselves are the inspiration for the creative talent Maria Alberino and her “Caprese Scratches” collection.
Maria was born into art, being part of the third generation of jewelers boasting several ateliers in Capri.
Her creations can be admired in the window of “Mediterranee Passioni” in Piazza Umberto I.
“Cats are my passion, I love them. I give refuge to many stray cats at my home, and they are the protagonists of my collection.
I love their personality, their life philosophy that conveys their free spirit from which ‘Free as a cat’, the inspiration for ‘Caprese Scratches’ was born. I felt the necessity of creating a jewel that wasn’t only a decoration but rather something that speaks about the person wearing it”.
An unconditional love born two years ago, when Maria left her family home and started living by herself, and, as she tells us, rescuing cats, sheltering them in her house and sharing her spaces with them.
“I created a line of pendants, nine in total, each one inspired by one of my cats, different semi-precious stones encased in silver or gold with diamonds”.
She wears round her neck the pendant of the cat who inspired this collection, a tricolor jasper stone.
It is said that stones emanate energy, this, in particular, is known as the teaching stone. During Middle Ages it was considered the stone of warriors.
She is a warrior herself, she decided to donate part of the earning to the Caprese organization “I Migliori Amici” that for years has been working towards the care and safeguard of cats.
Creativity has no limits, and in addition to pendants, Maria is working on rings and earrings as well.
“Not only that, I’m also working on another jewelry collection, inspired by flowers.
It is my first experience as a designer, so I realize that the creation and assembling process is not an easy task, but I reckon that it is well worth it.”
